Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Family Funnies (Christian has some competition now)

Family Picture during Christmas Break
*We sat down for Sunday dinner two weeks ago. The whole meal was hot and ready to go, except our green beans which I quickly found out were still a little bit frozen in the middle (oops!). As soon as we said the prayer, Andrew promptly announced that he had to go potty. He ALWAYS has to go at meal time. This time was no different. When Jonathon finally got to come downstairs 5 minutes later, he said, "Now my pork chops are colder and my beans are warmer." Haha! So much for a nice family dinner...

*As we walked out to get in the car, Christian looked around and said in a shocked voice, "Dad, why did you clean the garage?"
(Apparently, we don't clean the garage enough. Children always know how to make us feel good.)
Jonathon replied, "Mom made me."
True that.

*A few weeks ago we went to the DMV to finally get our Utah Driver's Licenses. We have had so many terrible DMV experiences (CO and NY) that we looked up all the info that we would need online and got it all ready to go. As we were driving to the place, we were talking about the time we waited for 3 hours only to find out that we were missing one document. We laughed at that memory for a while and then proceeded to go into the DMV and be told that we were missing a document. I mean, seriously, we had 6 different documents and our old Driver's Licenses (where we already had to show all of said documents previously) and they still needed more. What the heck? We weren't laughing on the way back the second time.

*Christian and Andrew have been obsessed with the movie Ice Age lately. Jonathon and I were talking about it one night. He said, "I think that Manny (the mammoth) is voiced by Ray Romano." I said, "Hey, I think you are right. I love Ray." Jonathon immediately snapped back, "Well, Everybody loves Raymond." We were tired and it was late, so we laughed about it way too long.

Mom: "What do you guys want for dinner?"
Andrew: "Ketchup!"

Grandma C. was coughing while she was reading Andrew a book...
Andrew: "No Grandma, you do it like this (showing her how to cough into your elbow so you don't spread germs)."
Sarah: "Good job, Andrew. I taught you well."
Andrew: "No Mom, I taught Grandma well!"

During Dinner...
Andrew: "I want some "Amen" (pointing to the bottle on the table)
Sarah: "Andrew, that's called A-1"
Andrew: "No Mom, it's called Amen."

After watching Andrew dance around for 5 minutes:
Sarah: "Andrew, please go up and go potty."
Andrew: "No, I have to tell you."
20 seconds later....
Andrew: "Mom, now I have to go potty." (He is SO stubborn!)

Andrew: "When I grow up, I want to drive a Lightning car."
(As in Lightning McQueen... yep, still obsessed.)

Sarah: "Where did you get hurt?"
Christian: "In the pit of my elbow."
(Hmmm.... what do you call the other side of your elbow to distinguish it? Pit sounds good to me.)

While preparing the garden....
Christian: "Dad, I want to dig. Why don't you ever let me dig?"
Jonathon: "You are still pretty small to use a big shovel."
Christian: "But Dad, if I am going to be a paleontologist, I have to learn to dig and practice a lot."
(Seriously, how can you argue against that one...)

While driving...
Andrew chanting from the back seat: "Turn red, Turn red, Turn red,"
When the traffic light changed to red just before we got there, he started to cheer.
Sarah: "Andrew, why did you want the light to turn red. That makes us have to stop, and it takes us longer to get home."
Andrew: "But Mom, red is my favorite color."

December 31, 2011

Christian Says (The Holiday Edition):

"Mom, something funny happened... I've been really naughty this year, and I still got presents."

Jonathon: "What did you ask Santa for when you saw him at the mall?"
Christian: "Oh Dad, he's not Santa. He's just a regular guy."

As we were driving by the oil refineries on the way to Grandma's...
"There's those dinosaur bone factories."
(We had previously had a discussion about how dinosaurs slowly decayed and eventually some remains turned into oil. Now they will always be the dinosaur bone factories to us.)

When Jonathon tried to sleep in over the holidays...
Christian to Jonathon: "Mom and Andrew are already awake and you are not. That is unacceptable!"

While showing us his hip-hop moves...
"It's really hard to get that spin on your bum."

As all Kindergartners inevitably learn...
"Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin Labor Day" (Well, he was pretty close)

And a little something from Andrew....
"Mom, I hurt the elbow on my leg." (His knee!)

September 4, 2011

Christian Says:

"After I'm done being a paleontologist, I am going to be a football player."

In the Locker Room:
Christian: Where is mom?
Dad: In the girl's locker room.
C: They have a separate room.
D: Yep, the boys and girls each have their own room.
C: Why?
D: (Not wanting to get into it in public...) You will understand when you are older.
C: (Throwing arms up) I want to understand NOW!
D: Because boys and girls look different when their clothes are off, so they need their own rooms.
C: So, they have separate rooms so they don't get their clothes mixed up?
D: (laughing) yeah, something like that.
C: It's a bad idea to separate boys and girls.

"Did you know that when you are a genius you have to feed your brain. You need to eat fish and broccoli every day and drink 10 gallons of water."

While playing with their toy dinosaurs:
Christian (exasperated): "Andrew, would you please stop calling a stygimoloch a maiasaura. We don't have any maiasaura."

"Mom, I just thought of the biggest food chain ever. The sun which is food for phytoplankton, which are food for zooplankton, which are food for anchovies, which are food for little squid, which are food for giant squid, which are food for sharks, which are food for people." (I'm not sure if this food chain is technically correct, but I don't doubt Christian)

Dad: "Christian, you are going to Grandma's while mom and I go car shopping."
Christian: "How do you put a car in a bag?"

While looking at the planter boxes in our gardening book:
"I didn't know you could build sand boxes for your plants!"

"Mom, did you know that a big space rock that hits the earth is called a meteorite. All of the other rocks that miss earth and are just flying around in space are called meteor-wrongs."

Jonathon: Mom wants us to buy some ant traps.
Christian: It won't hurt the ants, will it?
J: It is a poison that will kill the ants because we don't want them in our house.
C: (Highly emotional by this point...) You can't kill the ants. They are an important part of the ecosystem.

Seemingly out of nowhere...
Christian: "I am getting better at laying eggs."
We soon realized that he was talking about playing Angry Birds. Christian and Andrew love that game, especially the birds that lay the egg "bombs."

We were helping Christian read the words on his pencil. They said "I Love NY."
Christian: "What does NY stand for?"
Dad: "New York"
Christian: "I love New York... no I don't!"

July 25, 2011

Christian Says:

"Spiders use their webs like magnets. The insect is the magnet and the web is the refrigerator."

Christian has been really into animals lately. That brought up this analogy that he somehow concocted in his funny little brain:
"Finding eggs in the ocean is like trying to find a flea in the dryer. They're both hard."

During our trip to Idaho, Andrew was REALLY scared of the cat. He would scream every time it came into the room. Christian caught on to this and decided to torture him a little bit. When Jonathon was putting the boys to bed, they were all laying in there quietly. Suddenly, Jonathon heard Christian quietly whisper, "meow, meow." Jonathon gave him a major talking to, and we thought it had finally sunk in. We were wrong. The next day when he thought we weren't around, we heard Christian say, "Don't worry, Andrew. The cat will only eat you when you're sleeping."

"Mom, someday I will teach you to dance and exercise like me."

When we were discussing his birthday cake, Christian got really excited and described a really complex cake. I was worried that I couldn't make what he wanted so I said, "Christian, can I just do my best to make you a nice cake. It might not be perfect like you want." He replied,"You can make little mistakes, but no big mistakes."

One night when Christian was supposed to be trying to sleep...
Christian: Dad, What is a black hole?
Jonathon: A super dense object that sucks everything in.
C: Can it transport you through time?
J: Some people have proposed that may happen.
C: How does it transport you through time.
J: (Feeling deafeated...) I don't know son, now go to bed.

While eating lunch at McDonald's:
C: "Mom, why did I get a toy with my lunch?"
M: "Because it is a Happy Meal."
C: "What is a Happy Meal?"
(Oh man, I feel like such a good mom!)

During his birthday party, we asked Christian what things he could do now that he was five. He couldn't really think of anything, but a few minutes later he said, "When snails are five, they can't race anymore."

Christian was helping Aaron put together his new dinosaur train. Aaron was trying to attach two of the cars, but was putting the wrong sides together. Christian showed him that you had to put the ball end into the cup end. He said, "Aaron, it's easy... it is just like putting ice cream into a cone."

When cousin Loriann stood up to go get dinner, Christian quickly grabbed her seat and then proceeded to say in a sassy voice. "Excuse me... you're blocking my view."

February 5, 2011

Christian Says: The "Don't make me laugh!" Edition

As you can probably imagine, four incisions on your abdomen makes it a little painful to laugh. My kids and situations have been funny all week though, and I have found myself trying really hard to keep the laughs in. In most cases... it just didn't work. Here is a sampling:

My new all-time favorite Christian says occurred just after I returned home from my surgery:
Christian: "Mom got her gutter cut out."  (Haha... that was a painful one.)

The boys spent the first few days with the H. family down in Provo. Uncle Aaron took Christian sledding. After going down the hill...
Christian: "That was the best. run. ever. I LOVE my life!"

Grandma C. came to spend the next few days with us. During that time, Christian was telling her all about butterflies from his new favorite show Wild Kratts. It started off so well...
Christian: "Did you know that monarch butterflies migrate 3,000 miles every year from Canada to Mexico?"
Grandma C: "Wow, that is a long way. How do they know how to get there?"
Christian: "They have cell phones and call each other on the way."

Christian: "Grandma, aren't you supposed to have gray hair?"

After completing a new puzzle...
Christian: "Look Mom and Dad, I'm a natural." (We are still working on the humility thing around here)

Christian: "Andrew hasn't lost his zest for raisins."

Unfortunately, I also got in on the funny action and caused myself some laughing pain...

It really hurt to stand up straight because it stretched the incisions. For the first few days I hunched over so that it wouldn't hurt. One night, it started snowing big, beautiful flakes. We were watching out the window. I decided to step forward to get a better look. Unfortunately, my hunch made it so that I took one step forward and banged my head into the glass. Jonathon was laughing so hard that I couldn't contain myself and was laughing too. For the next 10 minutes he kept replaying the scenario.

Jonathon (in a high-pitched Sarah voice): "Wow, that is beautiful snow."
WHACK!
"Ouch!"

Cue more laughing. Both of us were worn out after that one.

December 15, 2010

Christian Says:

During the Thanksgiving holiday:
My Mom asked Christian how to cook a turkey. He replied "For 10 minutes at 5 degrees."

Grandma then asked what he learned about Thanksgiving at preschool.
Christian: "I didn't learn anything about Thanksgiving, just Pilgrims and Indians."

While my family was staying with us, Christian came downstairs one morning and no one was around. Finally, he found Grandma and said, "I think everyone is playing a game of Sardines (reverse Hide and Seek) and just forgot to tell me."

While putting Andrew down for a nap, I heard Christian making a lot of noise downstairs. I went down and told him to stop screaming. He replied, "I'm not screaming, I'm hooting like a hadrosaur (dinosaur that makes noise with its crest)."

While picking Christian up from preschool one day, his teacher pulled me aside and asked me what Jonathon's profession was. I told her and then asked why? She laughed and said that during occupations week, Christian told her that his dad was "a paleontologist, doctor, and dentist." When I asked Christian about it, he said that people were calling his dad a doctor (PhD) so he told her every doctor he could think of (including Dr. Scott the Paleontologist from Dinosaur Train).

After the first snow:
Christian: "The sandbox turned into a snowbox."

Christian had been sick, but he really wanted some chocolate milk.  I asked him if his tummy was feeling okay.
Christian: "My tummy told me in the middle of the night that it would be okay to drink chocolate milk."

Christian was trying to move his chair to the other side of the table, but Andrew kept blocking him. He was angry and frustrated and started yelling at Andrew. I told him that he needed to be calm and not yell. He looked straight at me, put his hands in the air, and yelled, "I'm STRESSED!" (Oh dear...)

We were sending out our Christmas cards and were talking about buying stamps:
Christian: "You mean those things with the bell with the telephone on top."
Mom: (after thinking for a few seconds...) Oh yeah, you're talking about the liberty bell. Yes, that is a stamp." (if you are as confused as I was, look at the pic on the right -->)

November 12, 2010

Christian Says:

"Idaho looks like the Statue of Liberty." (He is right. Check out the composite that Jonathon put together) -->

While looking for buffalo on Antelope Island, I had forgotten my glasses and was having trouble telling the difference between faraway buffalo and big rocks.
Christian: "Mom, look for a rock that is moving and has horns... that's a buffalo."

"I observe that NOT eating chocolate all day is NOT good." (What 4 year old says, "I observe?")

Jonathon: "It sure is a nice day."
Christian: "Yea, it smells just like an air freshener out here."

While driving past North Salt Lake and all of the oil refineries...
"Right now it smells like popcorn and poo." (excuse the potty language, but he is pretty accurate if you've ever driven by there :)

Lately, Christian has been really in to telling jokes. Most of them are really silly and don't make sense, but he did make up 2 that actually work:
*"If you have a silly willy and put him in the cold, then you have a chilly willy."
*What is an ankylosaurus' favorite kind of sandwich? A Club Sandwich

Christian: "Mom, that was dubious."
Mom: "You don't even know what dubious means."
Christian: "Yes, I do. It means that you don't believe that it really happened."
I wasn't quite sure if his definition was accurate, so I looked it up:
dubious |ˈd(y)oōbēəs|
adjective
1 hesitating or doubting : Alex looked dubious, but complied. See note at doubtful .
2 not to be relied upon; suspect : extremely dubious assumptions.• morally suspect : timesharing has been brought into disrepute by dubious sales methods.• of questionable value : she earned the dubious distinction of being the lowest-paid teacher in the nation.
He was definitely in the right ballpark. (Thanks Martha Speaks on PBS)

While playing dinosaurs with his friend Siena and her mom, Michelle:
Christian (to Michelle): "You get to be the T-Rex."
Michelle: "Okay, I'm going to eat this little animal." (Christian's zhu zhu pet)
Christian: "That is a gopher. Big carnivores don't eat those. Big carnivores eat other little carnivores and little carnivores eat small animals. But they didn't live during the same time period, so it couldn't really eat it."
-Apparently, even when you are playing pretend, you have to be accurate in your dinosaur facts!

August 22, 2010

Christian Says (The Moving Edition):

While touring NY with our family:
In a loud commanding voice..."Okay guys, this is our stop. Everybody get off the train."

"I only want to move somewhere where there aren't any subways."

While on the airplane during landing:
"This airplane speaks Spanish. When I say abajo, it goes down. Abajo! Abajo! Abajo!"

In the airport while Grandpa was talking to a friendly lady:
"Grandpa, would you please tell that lady to stop talking to you." (This was only funny after I got over the embarrassment)

On the farm in Idaho:
"Grandma has an enormous apartment. Enormous means super big."

"I want to go help Grandpa move the water poles (siphon tubes)."

"Uncle Matt is two kids tall." (It's true. He is 6'3".)

"The corn is in the back of Grandpa's big trailer." (the bed of his pickup truck)

In Utah:
Uncle Aaron: "Christian, do you like In-N-Out burger?"
Christian: "I like both. I like my hamburgers inside and outside."

While in the car:
"Dad, I would feel more comfortable if you would drive with two hands."

During bedtime prayers:
"Would you please come down and tell my mom to buy me a new Henry train?"

May 31, 2010

Christian Says:

Christian was squishing Andrew with a couch cushion.
Sarah: "What are you doing?"
Christian: "I'm juicing Andrew."

"A tummy is a hotel for food."

Andrew touched the outside of the stove and slightly burned his hand...
Christian: "Hot, Andrew. That wasn't very smart. I guess he's not a troodon (thought to be one of the smartest dinosaurs based on brain size). I'm a troodon. He's a brachiosaurus.

I picked up Christian from Primary on Sunday. His teacher told me that Christian got a little upset in class. I braced myself for the worst. She then grinned and told me this story...
*They were having a lesson from the Old Testament on how Daniel and his friends ate healthy foods. The children then had to identify which foods were healthy for the body. Apparently, Christian refused to believe that "Old McDonald's french fries weren't good for you." He was so defiant that they finally had to drop the issue. Oh, dear...

While discussing possible new homes in Utah...
Christian: Can we get a place like Grandma's where you don't have to go anywhere to go to the park?
Sarah (confused): You mean a backyard?
Christian: yeah!

Sarah: Maybe when we move we can get a pet.
Christian: I want to get a beehive and have lots of pet bees.
Sarah: How about a goldfish?
Christian: Mom, I just really want bees.

March 22, 2010

Christian Says: (The dinosaur edition)

"I'm a super hero. This helmet protects me so I can save baby dinosaurs."

Christian: "What is Mary Poppins?"
Jonathon: "A movie made in the 1960's."
Christian: "But, Dad, that's when the dinosaurs lived!"

Christian came to me crying...
"Andrew thinks he's a T-Rex, and he got his teeth in me." (Sure enough, there was a big bite mark on his chest!)

While playing dinosaurs...
Christian: "I'll be the apatosaurus. Andrew can be the T-Rex 'cause he's the bad guy."

This is a video of Christian singing the Dinosaur ABC song from Dinosaur Train. He sings this to anyone and everyone who will listen. You can see the lyrics here.

This video is a short interview I did with Christian about his dinosaurs. He sure loves them!

Bracket Fun

Every year Jonathon and I have a friendly March Madness competition. Usually, we give Christian the "no-upsets" bracket, but that fell to Andrew this year. Instead, we thought that Christian was old enough to participate. We decided to set up his bracket by which team he thought had the coolest school mascot. We read each of the match-ups to him and let him choose the name that he liked best as the winner.

Unfortunately for him, the lowest ranked schools have some pretty awesome nicknames. Why would you ever choose the Kansas State Wildcats (#2) when you could pick the North Texas Mean Green (#15)?

I mean, seriously?

Christian liked them so much that the Mean Green are going to the National Championship in his bracket. He also really liked the Siena Saints (#13) and the Maryland Terrapins (#4) when he found out terrapin meant turtle.

But the BIG winner of Christian's bracket is none other than the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Why you ask?

Because he thought they were called "Mountain Ears" and laughed like crazy every time they matched up with another team. So there you have it... the NCAA tournament as called by a 3-year-old.

Go Mountain Ears!

January 3, 2010

Christian Says:

"I wish I had a small dinosaur, that doesn't eat people, for a pet."

Jonathon was giving Christian the beaters to lick after making chocolate chip cookies for Santa Claus. Sarah protested because it had raw eggs, to which Christian responded, "I love to lick raw eggs."

"When I get really big and break through the ceiling, then we need to get a bigger house."

I walked into the kitchen the other day and all three boys turned to look at me.
Jonathon: "Wow, Honey, you're a real head-turner."
Christian: "Yeah Mom... You look like a big rhinoceros."

Christian and I were looking at our nativity set the other day. He was curious about the angel.
Christian: "Mom, is that the Angel Moroni?"
Sarah: "I don't think the Bible tells us the angel's name."
Christian: "Was it one of Angel Moroni's buds?"
Sarah: "I'm sure it was."

During Christian's bedtime routine...
Christian: "Dad, can you turn on the hall light?"
Jonathon: "No, Christian. You have your night light."
Christian: "But Dad, I'm getting scared."
Jonathon: "Of What?"
Christian: "Of my stomach making noises. It sounds like a dinosaur crossing the street to our house."

While looking at a map of the world...
Christian: "Where is the subway?"
Sarah: "The world is much too big for this map to show something so small like the subway."
Christian: "But, Mom, the subway stations are HUGE, and there are so many stops."

A 3-Year-Old's Prayers

I fully encourage Christian to say his own prayers about things that are important to him. The kid is smart though, and it has begun to backfire on me. He now uses his prayers as a chance to subtly (or not so subtly) tell me exactly what he wants, usually when he knows there is little chance of me saying "yes". I honestly don't know if it is a manipulation technique or the faith of a child. Either way, it sure has been entertaining to see what he will say next. In the last week, I have heard the following things:

"Thank you that we can, maybe, go to Noah's today."

"Bless that mommy will give me milk for lunch."

"Bless that Tidmouth Sheds (Thomas Train set) can stay at Target long enough for us to go buy it, or that I can want something else if they don't have it." [This one was so surprising and funny that I busted up laughing right in the middle, oops.]

"Thank you that, maybe, we can have ice cream tonight."

On a related note: We have all been horribly sick the last few weeks. There were many sleepless nights in the last two weeks taking care of 2 sick boys. We finally took Christian to the Dr. and got medication for an eye infection and an ear infection. I am starting to finally feel better after about a month of the nastiness... hence the return to blogging. Anyway, for about the last 4 nights, Christian's bedtime prayers have ended with a very long, drawn out, "Bless that I will feel better the neeeext day." Poor kid has been waiting for the next day for a long time.

November 11, 2009

Christian Says:

"I wish I had a hat so I can be a farmer like Grandpa. Then I would have hair like Grandpa. He just has a little that goes in a circle around the back." (I guess this is the new way of saying BALD)

"I wish we had a big house and no neighbors. Then I could be loud."

Is Grandma coming on an airplane or a spaceship?

When Mom H. was here, he introduced her to his nursery teacher saying, "This is my new friend, Grandma."

Christian was watching Grandma get ready one morning. He asked why she was putting lotion on her face. She told him that she put it on to help keep the wrinkles away. Christian said, "Grandma, you better put some more of that lotion on."

Our home teachers were at our apartment one Sunday. They asked Christian what he wanted to be when he grew up. He said, "A doctor... so I can cut people's legs." (He has a movie about Joseph Smith's childhood when he had to have surgery on his leg. He is obsessed with that scene. The movie is now banned in our house because Christian was experimenting on his brother.)

During potty-training, Christian has some key phrases that we have identified.
1. "Uh oh, something's happening."
2."Mom, I have good news."

Dad, I wish you would bring all of your mice home.

"I love my brother so much. I love to play with him and fight with him."

After church, we asked Christian what he learned. He said, "We learned about our bodies. We have a special thing in our neck called a heart. Hearts are important so we can love others."

September 27, 2009

Christian Says:

Jonathon: "Wow Andrew, you were up at the crack of dawn."
Christian (excitedly): "A crackadon is a dinosaur that can fly and has big wings." (Dinosaur Train is his new favorite PBS show, which features a pteranodon).

Christian: "The dinosaur on Andrew's shirt is called a spike-a-turtle-saurus because it looks like a turtle with spikes on its back." (It was really a stegosaurus, but we thought he was quite the wordsmith for coming up with the name.)

Christian: "I wish I was one again. I don't ever want to grow up."
Mom: "Why not?"
Christian: "Because then I will look different."

While on the way to church, we were reminding Christian that we were going to try to be reverent this week.
Mom: "What things can help us be reverent?"
Christian (very matter of factly): "Four Trains"

Christian to Mom: "You be the stinky and I will be the cheese." (This occurred after we had randomly discussed stinky cheese while singing The Farmer in the Dell.)

While eating a cookie with a Hershey's Kiss on top, Christian said, "Mom, it's a grown-up chocolate chip."

Today at church, we had an amazing musical number by the ward choir. It was complete with a five piece brass ensemble. The last note was very powerful. In the one or two second pause after the song when everything was absolutely quiet, Christian said at full volume, "That was loud!" Everyone around us was trying to stifle a laugh and failing miserably. I was told that our son has very good comedic timing. (Thanks... I guess.)

Christian: Mom, you be the princess and I will be the prince. Now I will kiss you back into a frog!

September 6, 2009

Christian Says:

"What a great dinner you made, Mom. I'm going to like it this time, and I won't make funny faces either."

While walking on the way home from the library, Christian started to get tired.
Christian: "Mom, my body is telling me I need to stop."
I couldn't resist such a cute little request, so we stopped for a few minutes before we continued walking. A few steps later, now confident in his new found trick, he said, "Mom, my body is telling me that it needs a popsicle." I laughed and (of course) took him home to get a popsicle. (Sidenote: Why is it that his body never tells him that it is time for bed or to eat his vegetables? Hmmmm...)

"Zero means none in Spanish"
"Cry means nap-time in Spanish."
He is always explaining what things mean in Spanish. (This says a lot about our neighborhood :). I thought this one was particularly funny because I am always telling him that when he cries and whines it means he needs to take a nap.

"In our family, we have three mans [men] and one big sister."

"Andrew's squeaking. That means he's awake."

After refusing to try even a small bite of his dinner, and then finally being forced, Christian says, "It's actually pretty good." This same scenario and exact quote happens every night. One particular night, we were having potatoes. Christian said, "Potatoes are actually pretty good. Now Grandpa and Grandma will be happy." [We had previously told Christian that Gpa and Gma were potato farmers, so they would be sad to know that he didn't like them.]

July 13, 2009

Christian Says (City Boy meets the Farm edition):

"My irrigating boots are out in the parking garage." (He called it a parking garage the whole time we were there, but nobody wanted to correct him because it made us laugh every time.)

"Grandma drives a zip-SUV." (We have a zipcar membership that allows us to rent cars by the hour for short trips around the city. That is the only kind of car Christian knows.)

Christian: "When we go fishing, I want to catch a big whale."
When we finally caught a fish later that day, it was too big and he was really scared.
Christian: "I only want to catch small sharks now."

"I want to stay here for ever and ever and ever and ever and ever!"

(Standing in Grandma's bedroom)
Christian: "Grandma, this is your apartment, and our apartment is over there." (Pointing to the guest bedroom across the hall where we were sleeping)

"Hannah, you can't sleep. You need to play with your Christian!"

"Hannah, I don't like the MOOing cows."

Cousin Maren: "Christian, Do you remember my name?"
Christian: "Uncle Mary" (well, it was kind of close considering everyone was "Uncle ___")
Christian: "Mom, can we go play at Roger's?"
Sarah: "Who is Roger?"
Christian: "You know... Uncle Blue."
Joe: "Wow, he is good. I didn't know that they were the same person until I was 12."

On the way home from the airport, Andrew fell asleep and Hannah was trying to help Christian stay quiet.
Hannah: "When you have a sleeping baby, you need to use a 4- inch whisper. When you are outside you can use a whole foot long whisper."
Christian: "When I am outside, I like to use a shoe whisper."

"I LOVE Uncle Matt because he gives me Squeezers."

When asked what his favorite part of our trip was, he said "I just loved seeing my Grandma." AAAHHHH

*Thanks Hannah for helping me remember some of these cute sayings!

May 21, 2009

Christian Says (The imitate your parents edition):

After telling him "no," Christian responds, "Mom, don't talk that way to your Christian."

"Are you ready to be a good girl and get your Christian some milk?"

After playgroup last week, we started walking home.  Christian turned around and started walking the other direction.
Mom: "Where are you going?"
Christian: "I have to go to work."
Mom: "Why do you have to go to work?"
Christian: "To pay for all of my toys!"

Christian Says:

*Mom, I found a simple machine.  I just love pulleys!
(Thank you, Sid the Science Kid.  See pic. to the right-- He created a pulley using a measuring tape, stroller, and train :)

*That dinner was DE-LISH, Hon.
(Sometimes he calls me "Hon" or "Honey" like Jonathon does)

*"Crapa" (Grandpa) starts with "C" like Christian and Cameron.

*Potatoes live in Idaho on "Crapa's" farm.

Christian says:

(lifting up his shirt and pointing at his belly) "Christian's baby is growing bigger!"

Christian's might not be, but Mama's sure is.  This is my "Whoa Baby" expression and picture after I exploded in the last few weeks.
