Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Piano Recital

Christian and Andrew have both been taking piano lessons this year from our friend, Becca. In December, she held her mid-year recital. It happened in mid December, so it was a Christmas recital. Andrew is a first year student (Bastien Primer Level), so he learned a simple version of Jingle Bells. He had never played chords before, so it was a real struggle for the first few weeks. His hands are pretty small, so he kept hitting too many notes and got frustrated. We worked together, and he eventually got the chords right. It was exciting for him to see his progress.

Christian is a second year student (Bastien Level 1), but he really likes to challenge himself and play songs that he really enjoys. Becca is great about letting him try more difficult songs so that they keep his interest. He chose a Primary song called, "Samuel Tells of Baby Jesus." It is a pretty hard song because of the big jumps in the left hand. He had to work hard to get those down. He got a little bogged down with the fingering, so was a bit behind when it came to December. He was really getting down to the wire trying to memorize his song, so he had to practice a lot leading up to the recital. He completely pulled it off though. He did a great job, and I was so proud of his dedication to finishing what he started. He also played a second song entitled "First Etude." It was a song right at his level, so he learned it in only two weeks. Both sounded very good at the recital. I was one proud momma to see my cute kids perform.
