Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Hill Aerospace Museum

The last few weeks we have felt really cooped up because of the bad weather. On Saturday, we all had cabin fever, so we decided to check out one of our local museums. Since we live close to an air force base, there are a lot of fighter planes that fly by our house. The boys always seem interested in them, so we decided to check out the Aerospace Museum. I was pleasantly surprised how much I even enjoyed the museum. It was all very interesting and a good (FREE!) Saturday activity.

Jonathon in front of an A-10 Thunderbolt. Before he ended up at BYU, he was seriously considering attending the Air Force Academy to be a pilot. During a Science Camp at the AFA, Jonathon's group mascot was The A-10 Warthogs. He knows a lot about air planes and was able to tell us about them as we walked through the museum.

One of the really neat things for me was seeing one of the men from my hometown (Bernie Fisher) in the Utah Air Force Hall of Fame. His granddaughter is one of my good friends, so I felt a personal connection. He received the Medal of Honor (the highest award given) for his courageous rescue of a fellow pilot during the Vietnam War. His picture, heroic story, and airplane that he flew were all on display. I had heard the story before, but it was fun to see. The whole museum made war and the horrors of war seem much more real. They had videos, uniforms, stories, and other memorabilia from various soldiers and wars. It gave me a deep sense of appreciation for the people who sacrificed and a continued hope for the day when peace will reign.
