Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

One week left...

We have one week left of being New Yorkers. Looking back, three years seems to have gone quickly, although there were times in that first year when I didn't think I would make it through one. I have definitely grown up since moving here. I have learned to do hard things that I never thought I could. New York has changed our family and changed me. With all that being said...

Things We'll Miss About NYC:
  • Our Friends (who are really more like family)
  • Living next door to two awesome playgrounds
  • New England in the Fall (breathtaking!)
  • It's okay to be a Yankees fan
  • Broadway Plays
  • People want to come visit (Thanks to all of our visitors. We loved having you!)
  • Not having to drive... ever.
  • Living next to the church-- very convenient
  • The AMAZING Ward Choir
  • Central Park
  • A library branch 4 blocks away
  • No "keeping up with the Jones's" -With such limited space, everyone (in our 'hood) is in pretty much the same situation.
  • Being able to walk to everything important
  • Junior's cheesecake
  • Being 4 hours or less from Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, etc. etc.
  • Jonathon's 20 minute subway commute
  • There's ALWAYS something to do

Things We're Looking Forward To:
  • Living within driving distance of both of our families
  • Cheaper food (Milk that doesn't cost $4/gallon)
  • Not telling my kids to stop yelling and running 100x/day to spare our downstairs neighbors
  • No humidity = good hair days
  • BYU football games
  • A bedroom (We've been sleeping in the living room for 2 years!)
  • A backyard
  • 2 bathrooms
  • The mountains
  • Cost of Living
  • Reuniting with good friends
  • Quiet nights (NO endless sirens, motorcycle gangs, honking, and yelling at 3 AM)
  • Central Air Conditioning
  • Leaving behind the NY smells (garbage day during the summer, urine in all the elevators, homeless people on the trains, etc.)
  • Cafe Rio
  • No landlord
  • A washer and dryer
  • Staying in one place for the next 5 years (this will be our 7th move in 6 years of marriage)
  • Tripling our living space for 60% of the cost!
We are excited to be moving on, but we have had a grand adventure in New York City.

Looking forward to seeing you when you get out here! Hope the boys thoroughly enjoy having their very own park (aka yard). From what my sisters tell me, you won't be very far from the church here either.

Your church is around the corner and you live very close to the library, a huge park, and the Layton Surf and Swim. Layton High School also puts on several plays a year. It's not Broadway, but it's not bad!

Good luck with your move and all of your new Utah adventures! I'm glad that you guys were able to get that house. Rock on!
