Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Don't call us Traitors!

Most of you have probably heard by now, but we are so excited to announce that Jonathon accepted a postdoctoral position at the University of Utah starting September 1, 2010. He will be combining bioinformatics (computers) and molecular biology (test tubes) to study how genes get turned on and off in heart development.

This whole process has been a whirlwind, and we feel we were guided in all of our decisions to get to this point. We never even considered the U of U at first because they didn't have anyone working in Jonathon's current field (pancreas development). Last year, Jonathon started working on a side project in the bioinformatics field. That led to him taking a 2 week intensive course in gene regulatory networks last Fall. He realized how much he loved it, and our options for post-docs suddenly took a whole different turn. One of his former teachers recommended the U of U as an amazing place to study this particular subject because of all of the collaboration that they have become famous for. After a little digging, Jonathon discovered a lab that is doing exactly what he wants to do. The professor he will be working with is one of the top in the field, but most importantly, the project is interesting and exciting to him.

It has definitely been an adventure living in NYC, and we are going to get everything we can out of these last six months in the city. That being said, we are just thrilled to be moving closer to so many family members and friends. And despite the fact that we will be working for the U, we will be cheering for the Cougars. We are blue, through and through!

Wahoo! You are one giant step closer to home! I have been horrible at blogging (new diggs, new baby), but you were my first stop after I finally got online again. So sorry about little Andrew's herpes. Kids get the weirdest illnesses. We're currently battling a case of mulluscom contagiosom (no idea what else to call it). Nothing we can do but wait out these horrible bumps that may take FIVE YEARS TO DISAPPEAR!!! Enjoyed reading about your Dad. I'll admit I always loved when he subbed in High School.

Exciting! A couple of friends of mine moved to NYC recently, and they've been doing the museum thing. I'm not sure how kid-friendly any of the museums are, but if you're interested in checking out any of the stuff they've been seeing, to see if they are places that you haven't seen that you'd like to see ... you can look at their blog:
