Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Mexico Cruise: Day 1-- At Sea

The first full day of our cruise was spent aboard the ship. Since we were in a different time zone, we woke early and decided to walk around the ship while almost everyone was still asleep. It was a lovely morning. It was overcast, but the sun would peek out and create beautiful pillars of light shining on the ocean. We tried to take pictures, but they never turned out like they looked in person.

We walked around the track several times to get some exercise, and then headed down to breakfast. Our meager two miles of walking was far from what would have been necessary to counteract ALL the calories we ate, but at least it was effort in the right direction :) Breakfast and lunch were buffets on the Lido deck (9). They had all different kinds of food-- chinese, a deli with sandwiches, pizza, American grill, and a dessert bar. Plus.. all you can eat soft-serve ice cream. Breakfast was my favorite from the buffet. I had delicious french toast with cream cheese and berries several mornings along with some hot chocolate with ice cream in it. The food was plentiful, and some of us got a bit carried away :)

That day, we found a little card room on the 2nd floor, and played games to our heart's content. When we needed a break, we found some trivia games to join in on. The first one was Harry Potter trivia. There were about 30 people playing, and I was fairly confident that I could do well. I knew all the answers until the very end. Kym also did very well! We ended up getting beat in the end by one point. Haha! I found that my weakness lies in Book 1, which is my least favorite and haven't read in ages. It was super fun though.

We were already sitting, so we decided to stay for "Super Duper Trivia." It was a team game that was to be played over the course of the whole week on the sea days. We had to come up with a name for our team, and after many failed ideas, someone finally shouted out "Mort." Mort is our dog's name, and I thought it ridiculous, but that's what went on the official score sheet. As the contest went on though, the name became more endearing. The first day, we finished the trivia in the middle of the pack.

That night was the first of two formal nights. We got all dressed up in time to take some pictures and play a last game before our dinner. Even though we weren't nearly as glamorous as some of the cruise passengers, it was fun to dress up and go to a fancy dinner.
