Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

A Thanksgiving Wrap-up

We had the best Thanksgiving this year! We had so much fun with our families and enjoyed so many activities over the holiday weekend.  Here is a brief wrap-up of Thanksgiving 2010 with pictures:

The Meal

The kitchen was full of people preparing food.
This is what a kitchen should look like on Thanksgiving!

This is the awesome table that fit all 32 of us. It is actually several tables and plywood tops that have been cut to fit perfectly together. It is quite the elaborate setup, but it makes occasions like this very special. The meal, as always, was amazing!

Cousin Time

We had never gotten to meet Grace in person, so the boys were pretty excited to see their newest cousin. They played with her and tried to make her smile and do her special wiggle "dance". She is a sweet, easy-going little girl, and we love her.

 Black Friday Shopping

Jonathon and I decided to brave the crowds on Black Friday in hopes of scoring some awesome deals. We left the house at 4 A.M.  I dropped off Jonathon and his brothers and sister at Walmart (where they snagged us a new blu-ray player). Then I headed up to Babies R' Us to stock up on cheap diapers and wipes. It was pretty awesome watching mothers and pregnant women run through the store, throw several boxes of diapers in a cart, and then head to the checkout. Some women had multiple carts filled with diapers and wipes. The picture above was my cart. I LOVE a good diaper deal. Everything went smoothly and we were home at 5:30 to go back to bed for a few hours.

Carl Bloch exhibit at the MOA

Carl Bloch is one of my favorite religious painters. Many of his paintings are scenes from the life of Christ. I often went to look at his work (Christ at the pool of Bathesda) while I was at BYU. We found out that the BYU Museum of Art was having a special exhibit with 6 of his large altar paintings flown in from Denmark. They also had several other smaller works of his. We got tickets for our whole group and went on Friday morning. The above picture is just a few of the people who attended waiting outside the museum.

One of the coolest things about this exhibit was that the tour was on IPad. It was very neat. You could view panoramas of the churches where the paintings were taken from, hear experts describe the paintings in detail, learn about the life of Carl Bloch, and many other things. It really helped us understand the art a lot better, and it was fun to be able to use some fun, new technology. Below is Jonathon and his dad with their IPads, and our little family inside the museum. I highly recommend the exhibit if you will be in Provo between now and May.

Other Thanksgiving activities

Thanksgiving Weekend with My Family

My family was returning home from Thanksgiving in Texas, so they stopped at our house to spend Friday and Saturday night with us. We watched BSU and BYU lose football games in dramatic and tragic fashion :(, ate lots of yummy food, laughed until we hurt playing "Things in a Box," and the boys even put up our Christmas lights.

Dad and Matt got up on the roof to put up some of the lights. Matt is so tall that we didn't even need a ladder. He just reached up and popped them into place. Height is a definite advantage. Now our house is looking quite festive.

The Snow Storm

Our perfect, wonderful Thanksgiving weekend was interrupted by a major snowstorm. We got about 6 inches over 2 days. It closed the major interstate from Utah to Idaho, so traveling home was difficult for many of our family members. Nathan and Emily couldn't get through, so they came to spend the night with us and wait out the road closure. We are so glad they did. It was so fun to get to talk to them more and play with baby Grace. Later that night, we got a call from my Uncle Darrel and Aunt Gayle's family saying they were stuck at the border also. We invited them to stay with us. We had such a fun night. I know it was an inconvenience for everyone to have to miss school and work, but it was so nice to be able to help them out. We are so grateful for the extra room in our house to be able to do things like that. We ate lots of food and played some fun games that night. Then they were all able to head home on Monday morning.

What a fun-packed, wonderful holiday with family. We are truly blessed, and this Thanksgiving really showed us many of the amazing things that we have to be grateful for.

I know that table well! It is one of the wonders of the world.

I'm sad we never got to hook up. We had a great time with the Dearden's and Derek's family. I thought of you a few times, one of which was when BYU lost in a tragic and dramatic fashion :(
