Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Teaching our child. . .consumerism?
We have decided that the song "Hush Little Baby" should not be sung to little children anymore. The whole message in the song is that when something goes wrong, buy something new. This message has become so engrained in Christian's mind that he is constantly telling us to buy new things. For example, one day Sarah told Christian that she didn't like the shirt she was wearing that day (you know how girls are about these things). To which Christian replied, "buy a new one." This idea has extended to pretty much anything. In fact, once when Sarah mentioned that her glass of water was empty, Christian told her to "buy a new one." Is this really the example that we set for him? I can just see my pioneer ancestors that lived by the saying "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without" shaking their heads with shame as they watch us trying to teach our child. We'll see if we really stop singing the song, but we definitely will be teaching Christian to be more frugal. Any ideas on how we should do this? Leave us some suggestions in the comments section.
