It was a really long week because of abnormally rainy weather. Usually it will rain for a few hours in the early morning and then be done, but this week, it seemed to go on and on all day, every day. We weren't able to get outside much, so we were going a little stir crazy. On Saturday, when we saw a peek of blue sky, we grabbed our stuff and headed out to find something to do.
We decided to go to the Salvador zoo. It is close to our apartment and FREE, so it was the perfect option! The zoo is very small, but it had a lot of beautiful vegetation and local wildlife that were fun to see. In particular, there were a lot of big cats, primates, and birds... everything you would expect from Brazil. There were also a lot of huge jacarés (alligators) that the boys liked.
Our absolute favorite though were the monkeys that were just "visiting" the zoo. Wild monkeys were all over the place, and Hyrum was in heaven. He walked right up to them and watched for quite a while. Monkeys have been his favorite animals since he was a baby, so Brazil has been a dream come true.
It was so nice to get out and walk in the sunshine. We only stayed for a little over an hour, but we got some exercise and some vitamin D. It was just what we needed. I even found some pretty pink flowers to match my outfit, which made me smile. All in all it was a very successful outing.
