Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Camping Trips
With coronavirus closing down pretty much everything this summer, camping became a very popular activity. Our family went twice over the last 2 months. Both times we went with Joe and Kym and had a blast! It is so nice to get away and spend time doing outdoor activities.
The first time we went to Huntington Reservoir down by Price. It was super easy and convenient because it was close to Joe and Kym's house, right next to the water, and on a big lawn area. We set up the tents and got dinner going. Later that night, we went swimming in the lake. A huge storm blew in around 7 pm, and the wind was super intense. We grabbed our towels and ran back to the tent, but it was pretty much flat on the ground from the wind. We sat around the campground for a while waiting for the storm to blow over. Finally, the wind stopped, and we put the kids to bed. The adults stayed up for a while and talked before going to bed. The campground was by a highway, so we heard cars and trucks driving by all night, but other than that, it worked out fine.
The next morning, we packed up our stuff and then went boating on Joe and Kym's boat. We tried fishing for a while, but didn't catch anything. Then we hooked up the tube and pulled the kids behind the boat. They had a blast! Those that weren't on the boat got to paddle-board and kayak in the bay. We ate lunch and then headed home. It was a fun trip.
Our second camping trip was at the end of July. The wind broke our tent during our first trip of the summer, so we bought a new one. Tents were in super high demand, so the only one we could find was at the Price Walmart. Joe and Kym bought it for us, and we paid them back. We went up Mapleton Canyon to Whiting campground.
It was nearly 100 degrees that day, and I was a bit worried that it was going to be a disaster because we were SO hot. Luckily, by dinner time it had cooled down a little bit. We had hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner and then played games that night. The next morning we went on a hike up the canyon. It was such a fun, gorgeous hike. It totally made up for the annoying heat of the day before. While we were hiking, we crossed a little creek on a log and then found a whole bunch of little shelters that looked like they were made by Boy Scouts. The kids explored them all and thought they were the coolest things ever.
After cleaning up camp, we headed down to Utah Lake to go boating. Joe and Kym's boat died in the middle of the lake. It seems like they are constantly having problems with it, and this was just another issue. Kym was driving, and we were stranded. Joe drove to the end of the dike and swam out to us. He was able to work his magic and get the boat started again. It wouldn't go faster than 10 mph, so we slowly headed back to the dock. Instead of riding on the boat, we blew up some rafts and swam and paddled around. It was still really fun, even if it didn't turn out as expected.
We loved our camping trips over the summer and hope to do one more before the season is over. It has been fun to go with Joe and Kym, and we are so glad that they live close enough to do fun things with, especially now that coronavirus has made socializing so much harder.
