Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

My July Babies

The end of July means birthdays at our house. For several weeks leading up to their birthdays, Christian and Hyrum debated about what they wanted to do. It was Christian’s year for a friend party, so he decided he wanted to invite Rubin and Graham to go out to pizza and then to Nickel City for arcade games and laser tag. It worked out great because Rubin and Christian are best friends and so are Graham and Andrew.

We started the day at Pizza Pie CafĂ© for an all you can eat pizza buffet and a special birthday cookie Sundae. The boys ask to go there every year now. Both Hyrum and Christian got a huge Sunday, so they were nice enough to share with everyone.

After everyone was stuffed with pizza, we headed over to Nickel City. No one was in the laser tag room, so we took the opportunity to have it all to ourselves. We all separated into teams and played a round. Even Hyrum got to play. We had a blast! Then we gave each boy some money to play whatever arcade games they wanted. They played for over an hour. Before we left, we played one more game of laser tag. It was such a fun day!

The next day was Christian’s actual birthday. We had his favorite breakfast, pancakes and bacon, and then he got to open presents. He was so excited to get a raspberry Pi, sleeping bag, joy cons for the switch, and other things. I can’t believe I have a 12 year old! The time has flown by. He is such a great kid. He has his moments where he loses his temper and fights with his brothers, but Christian has a deep sense of right and wrong. I can trust Christian to do the right thing, and I am proud of him for that.

The following day was Hyrum’s birthday. He got his favorite breakfast, DONUTS! Hyrum got a joy con, a water balloon launcher, and a new Legend of Zelda shirt, among other things. He is 5 now, and is so excited to start school with his brothers. He loves to be independent and do things by himself. Hyrum and energy and pizazz and makes life more fun. Five year old Hyrum is working on being more obedient and bothering his brothers less, but he is also a great cuddler and happy kid.

As if they didn’t have enough fun already, we celebrated their birthdays one last time on Sunday during family dinner with the Hills. I wanted to make it special for them, so we did a Legend of Zelda themed dinner. The whole menu consisted of things from the video game like: monster rice balls, meat skewers, Chuchu jellies (jello), deku nuts (pistachios), roasted veggies, and many more fun items. I made little signs for all of the menu dishes with a description of what they were in the game. It was a fun dinner. The grand finale was a Legend of Zelda birthday cake that Chan and Grandma made. It was epic! Chan made a fondant figure of Link that sat on top of the cake. When the boys cut into it, they found out that it was full of candy. They were in sugar heaven!

We had a fun week celebrating our awesome boys. I sure love them, and my greatest wish is that they grow up to be faithful men of God. Happy Birthday, my sweet July babies!
