Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Kristy Dear Got Married

One of my best friends, Kristy Marchant, got married on October 10th. Kristy was my roommate my freshman year at BYU. We hit it off immediately and spent the whole year making amazing memories. We went through a lot of crazy, fun experiences together and have remained great friends. She calls me her "Old Bean" (a British term), and she is my Kristy Dear.

She has waited several years to find the right person to marry, and now that she is so happy, I am thrilled! What a joyous weekend it was.

On Thursday, I attended a bridal shower in her honor. Her friend Jenny hosted it, and she did a really amazing job. The food was wonderful (and included Kristy's favorite dessert, cheesecake!), the games were really fun and not the corny bridal shower games that are sometimes played. The most interesting thing was the wide variety of people at the party. Everyone knew Kristy, but not many people knew the other guests. There were old roommates, friends from church, friends from work, cousins, etc. It just showed me what an influence Kristy has for good on the lives of lots of different people, and how loved she is.

On Friday morning, I was invited to attend what Kristy called her "BFF Brunch." We all met at Kneaders and had breakfast together. It was fun to be in a smaller group to hear more from Kristy and to get to know the other girls. Kristy was so thoughtful and got each of us a matching bracelet. What a fun day to spend with a good friend!

Friday night was the reception. They had the reception before the actual sealing ceremony because of a scheduling conflict, but it worked out. It was gorgeous! Kristy chose a peacock color scheme with rich greens, blues, and purples. The gym was converted into a stunning reception hall with a drop ceiling and twinkle lights. It really was stunning. They served yummy crepes, cake, and had a candy bar.

Getting Ready for her Wedding
Saturday afternoon was the actual sealing at the Mount Timpanogos temple. Kristy was quite nervous (or maybe just completely exhausted and overwhelmed!) We waited in the sealing room for quite a while before her mom came in looking quite emotional. I could tell she was worried, so I just prayed like crazy for Kristy to be able to be calm and enjoy the day. One of Kristy's other friends, Shawna, looked at me knowingly and said, "It's hard to let her go." That really summed up my thoughts. All of her friends, including me, have been so protective of her for these last several years, but now Kristy had someone else to take care of her, and she just needed to decide to move forward.

Finally, she came into the room, looking much more composed. She and Geoff were sealed by her Grandpa. It was a lovely ceremony, and everything turned out wonderfully. Geoff seems like a wonderful guy and really is her perfect match. I look forward to getting to know him better. Yay for my sweet friend on her most special day! I was so happy to be able to participate and show her how much I love her.
