Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Back to School

School started last Monday. Christian is in 2nd grade this year, and it is already off to a fantastic start. Last year he started in the advanced program in our district. He was part of the first grade pilot program, and his teacher was fabulous. Lucky for us, she moved up with the class to second grade. So this year, Christian has the exact same class and the same teacher. They are even in the same classroom. We loved everything about last year, so this was really a wonderful thing for us. On the first day of school, Christian wasn't nervous because he knew exactly what to expect. It was a lot less stressful for both of us.

Christian's school has a really fun tradition of rolling out the red carpet for the students to welcome them back to school. They have fun music playing, and the principal dresses up and shakes all the kids' hands. After walking the red carpet, we headed to his classroom to see his teacher and classmates. He found his seat, said "hi" to his friends, and got to work. Since the whole class already knew the routine,  they didn't waste any time, and the first week was actually productive. It was a great start to the year!

Andrew also gets to start school this year... preschool. He is going to our neighborhood elementary for their free preschool program. He will start on Wednesday and is so excited. He has been waiting to go to school for the last 2 years. He gets to go with one of his good friends from church and will do great!
