Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

Christian turns 7!

For his birthday, Christian wanted to take a friend to the zoo. They are having a special exhibit at the Hogle zoo featuring animal models made of legos and, since two of Christian's favorite things right now are animals and legos, it seemed like a perfect way to celebrate his birthday. It also made it easy to plan and execute for his 38 weeks pregnant mom.

So, on Friday we took Christian, Andrew and Christian's friend, Gavin, to the zoo. It was 100 degrees, and Sarah had to ride in a wheelchair most of the time (nice hubby), but everyone had a great time. We went to the Bird Show and the kids had a blast. They especially loved the golden eagle and the talking parrot. At the end of the show, they even got to give a dollar to a bird that was trained to take it from their hand with its beak and put it into the box. They also loved the giraffes and the gorillas, not to mention the lego penguins and polar bear. All in all, a good day!

Christian's actual birthday was Sunday, so we celebrated again on Sunday. We made a special breakfast that included cake batter pancakes, nice crispy bacon, and eggs laid by Christian's chickens. We then opened presents in the morning and let him play with his new Harry Potter glasses and wands all morning. They were by far his favorite gifts. He didn't take the glasses off all day... we even let him wear them to church because we didn't want the fight on his special day.

Our happy little wizard

In the afternoon, we went to Provo for Jonathon's brother, Aaron's, mission farewell. Grandma Hill got Christian another cake and he got even more presents from his uncles/aunts and grandparents. That night, we went home and his other grandma was there with another present for him. What a day! Now, we are just waiting to see if he will have a brother with a birthday the day after his...
