Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

A Perfect December Day

Things have been crazy busy around here the last few weeks. My new calling (blog post to come) is keeping me hopping from meeting to meeting. That along with volunteering weekly in Christian's classroom, several doctor/dentist appointments for members of our family, and the usual Christmas events has made December feel a little like a whirlwind.

Luckily, on Saturday we found ourselves at home with a free day. As soon as we got up, Jonathon suggested going to IHOP for breakfast. I usually give him the money excuse, and we decide it probably isn't worth it. That day, however, I decided that it was about time to enjoy some family time together, so  we headed to IHOP. Going out to breakfast is a very rare occasion for us, so the kids were super excited. We all ate lots of yummy food and spent a nice hour relaxing together.

When we got home, we cleaned the house and got our Saturday jobs done and then went to a local plant nursery to see Santa. Our friends told us it was a fun event and the lines were short, so we decided to try it out. It was one of the best Santa experiences we have ever had! The line went very quickly, the Santa Claus was so jovial and kind, the boys were all smiles, and we got hot chocolate and sugar cookies afterward. What more could you ask for?

After seeing Santa, we headed outside where they had real reindeer, a camel, and some donkeys. The boys were in awe of how huge the camel was. I was even a little surprised at its size. They loved seeing the animals, and then we took a little hayride around the nursery. It was bitter cold that day, but we warmed our hands with our cups of hot chocolate and sang to the Christmas songs they had playing. I was worried that Andrew would be freezing, but when I looked over at him, he said, "This is so fun!"

It is nice every once in a while to slow down and enjoy the magic of the Christmas season. Saturday was one of those perfect family days, and I savored every minute.
