Gordon B. Hinckley said, "My plea is that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we accentuate the positive." This year we hope to focus more on the positive blessings in our life. Hopefully, this blog is a source of optimism for us now and in the future.

The World from the Window
The last few days in New York have been cold and windy, so Christian and I have been holed up in our tiny apartment awaiting any sign that Spring might be around the corner. To our sadness, we awoke today to find the world covered in several inches of snow. Don't get me wrong, the snow really is beautiful. It covers up the dirty dingy city, but it once again means that we get to spend the day indoors. Luckily, we have been blessed with a child who is easily entertained. All winter he has taken up and maintained his daily post in front of the window, experiencing the world in any way he can. He spends hours every week looking down on the unsuspecting people that make their way to and from the next door subway stop. Although we generally have a very quiet street (for New York City), I am continually amazed at what we see from his beloved perch. It truly does feel like a microcosm of the world is visible from our window. Here are just a few of our daily sightings...
Dogs, dogs, dogs--dogs of every shape and size wearing various articles of ridiculous doggy clothing and jewelry
Every race, culture, and stereotype of people imaginable
Jewish families looking respectful and dignified on their way to school or synagogue
The Street Sweeper and garbage trucks, loud as usual
The skateboarding kids every afternoon
Taxis, firetrucks, and ambulances
The "resident" homeless woman pushing her cart and supplies to the subway station
Airplanes and helicopters high in the sky
Sophisticated "business types" talking on their cell phones and walking much too quickly to what I am sure is a very important meeting
We even saw the recent lunar eclipse from the window.
